The team, project management and representatives of the hosting organizations met at the Max Mannheimer Haus in Dachau from May 23rd to 26th for the second preparation weekend in 2024.

After the welcome and some organizational details, the group began with a team-building exercise. The IYM program was further planned in various working groups. These included the concepts for the workshops, events and excursions. All teams then presented their completed workshop concepts, the final titles were determined, and the schedule was finalized. The program for the theme day on anti-Semitism, which the European Janusz Korczak Academy will hold, was also discussed.
Friday, May 24th, 2024
After a warm-up, the weekly schedule was discussed, the welcoming of the participants and the opening party were planned, and the color groups were determined. In the afternoon, the team received a refresher on the KJR Dachau emergency concept and various emergency situations were simulated and how they were handled was evaluated afterwards. After another working phase in small groups, the interim results were presented and the plan for the rest of the weekend was adjusted. The day ended with the arrangements for the house rally, the city rally, the film screenings, the program on ‘places of remembrance’ and the excursion to the Kaufering memorial site.

Saturday also began with a warm-up before the team continued working in small groups. After lunch, the concept for this year’s eyewitness talks and the eyewitnesscafé was discussed. Updates to the rules for participants and the stage program for the International Garden Festival and guests to be invited were also discussed. Tanja Maier (Malteser) gave the team an introduction to first aid with a focus on emergencies that could occur during IYM. The awareness team then presented their revised concept.

On the last day of our meeting, we decided together on the final program for the two weeks of the youth meeting and discussed everything that still needs to be done in the upcoming weeks.
